My skincare routine

Looking after my skin for me has always been top priority and in the last few years I have tried and tested many brands of skincare. Some brands have worked wonders and others have ruined my skin, so through trial and error I have finally found a few brands that works for me.

Being in my mid 30s my main concern is ageing, so sagging skin, fine lines and age spots are all on my list to combat. I have finally got my skincare routine sorted and wanted to share it with you.

The main products I’m going to be talking about are all by Liz Earle, but I do use other products from other brands to supplement my routine. I start off in the mornings by cleansing my skin with the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. All you need is a 20p amount, I gently massage it into my skin, even over my eyes, as it is so gently it doesn’t sting at all, then I take the muslin cloth that comes with it, rinse it in hot water, squeeze and wipe off the product, no need to rinse after.

Next I like to tone my skin using the Pixi Glow Tonic using a cotton pad and wipe away any excess cleanser, in addition I also give my skin a quick spritz using the Liz Earle Skin Tonic. You can actually just use this as a toner. I let the toner sink in and dry on my skin and then apply my Liz Earle Superskin Face Serum, one small pump is enough for your whole face. Quick tip, rather than spreading the product on your hands before applying, dab it onto the skin and then massage it in circular and upwards motions, this way majority the of the product actually goes on your skin rather than sink into your hands.

After the serum I apply my Liz Earle Superskin Moisteriser, I use the unfragranced one for sensitive skin. I use maybe a pea sized amount, sometimes a little more if my skin feels a little bit more dryer than normal and apply it the same way I do the serum. Not everyone uses an eye cream or needs to and I have started recently, the one I chose to use is the Khiels Super Multi-Corrective Eye-Opening Serum. One small pump of this is more than enough for both eyes. Using my ring finger I dab into my skin around the contour of my eye, never apply eye cream directly onto the eye or under the eye where the skin is quite thin.

This generally it for my skincare routine, I do also once a week like to apply a face mask and exfoliate my skin. My favourites at the moment are The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal glow mask and the Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator. Of course after this if I want to wear I’ll go ahead and apply it, but on a normal day I don’t like to wear make up, I do however swear by a tinted moisturiser or BB cream.

What’s in my April Glossybox

I received my April Glossybox a few days ago and as promised from suggestions of some of my readers, I have used the products and will give you a review of what I think of each one of them. The products in this months box have luckily been items I didn’t have to use for weeks before seeing results, and actually I managed to use nearly all of them in one day as most were makeup products, more up my street. so here goes!

Item 1. Elgon Deliwash Cleansing Conditioner Co-wash combines the cleansing action of a shampoo with the hydration of a conditioner in one quick-to-use product. You use it like you would a normal shampoo, but expect less lather. The first time I used it I was a little optimistic, wasn’t sure what to expect, because to me the more lather there is, the cleaner the hair! All you need is an amount the size of a 50p in the palm of your hand, massage into your hair for about 2 mins as you would shampoo and then rinse. As I rinsed there was hardly any lather and it didn’t feel slippery like when you put conditioner in and rinse. I towel dried my hair as normal and then blow dried it. I wont lie, I was expecting for my hair to feel greasy, like when you don’t rinse it properly or enough. But no, it felt just like it does when I normally shampoo my hair. I love this product and will definitely be purchasing a full size version, so revolutionary!

Item 2. ModelCo Contour Stick is a chunky contour crayon which you can use to define your cheekbones, nose and jawline. It can be used on bare skin or over foundation. I’m not usually a fan of cream contour products, especially crayon sticks, but this one was lovely to use, it glided onto my skin beautifully. I only used it to contour my cheekbones, so I applied just a line down either side of my face on the contour lines and with a brush blended it in. Again it was really easy to blend and didn’t take much effort at all, I finished it off by going over it with a powder contour product, just to make it set. You can also use this product as an eyeshadow or lipstick, great for those with darker skin tones.

Item 3. Sport FX Shape Up Brow Pencil is a double ended pen with a retractable water resistant angled eyebrow pencil on one end a brush on the other. This is very similar to one I used to use and didn’t like much, I prefer the non angled versions or powder. I used the brush to tidy up my brows and brush out any foundation and then the pencil to gently fill in gaps in my brows and shape them. I found that as I was being gentle the colour was not appearing as much and had to go over the brows a few time before I got the desired colour and shape. Not what I was expecting or used to, so I’m afraid this product didn’t work for me and unfortunately I couldn’t test how waterproof it was as I used it on a night out.

Item 4. Merci Handy is not only a bacteria-busting gel, it also leaves your hands feeling soft, thanks to the tiny pearls, which burst on application to hydrate hands. My hands are very dry, so I tend to avoid hand sanitisers, but this one surprised me. It actually did leave my hands feeling soft, didn’t dry them out and it smells great.

Item 5. Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL a long wear formula that is jet black and leaves lashes supersized but soft. I love a good mascara as I’m not really a false lash kinda girl, and I have many that I always use and buy again. Unfortunately, this mascara is not one that I would buy, I don’t believe it does what it says on the bottle. As I brushed it through my lashes in a zig zag motion from root to tip, found that the formula was a little watery and didn’t apply well at all. Normally I see a result straight away with one coat from other mascaras, but with this one even after two coats I wasn’t impressed. My lashes didn’t look coated at all let alone supersized and volumised.

Here is my first blog….enjoy!

What’s in my GlossyBox…

Hi and welcome to my first ever blog post, I’m so excited and I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much I have enjoyed writing it. Please remember to comment and let me know what you think of my first post, how I can improve and what you would like me to write about in the future!

You will soon realise that I am obsessed with makeup and beauty products, you could call me or junkie or a whore, but in a nice way, if there is such a thing! So what better way to start my blog, then on the subject of beauty, and you may have already guessed by the title that this post is about what’s in my March Glossybox, yes I know its April, just running a little behind!

Item 1. The first item in my Glossybox is the luxurious eye cream by oOlution. It is 100% natural, hydrating and rich in anti-oxidants, helping to diminish dark circles and reduce puffiness. You can use it at the end of a long day or the morning after, either way it is a treat for your eye area. How to use it- Apply a rice-grain sized amount around the contour of your eyes in a patting motion, avoiding the lower and upper lids, day or night.

Item 2. Next is the Sleek Makeup Eye & Cheek palette. There are four of these palettes, each one thoughtfully put together, containing four eye shadows and two blushers. The one I have is the All Day Soiree, the colours are very neutral and not to bold, and some of the colours look like they can also be used to highlight and contour with. How to use- for eyes use the lighter shades all over the eyelid and the darker colours across the crease of the eye to define it more. For the cheeks sweep onto the apples of the cheek for little flush of colour.

Item 3. Next is This Works in transit camera close up, a mask, moisturiser and primer in one, making it a definite hero product and apparently a favourite of Victoria Beckham. This primer is meant to balance, plump and brighten the skin, leaving it photo perfect. How to use- layer this product over your moisturiser or face oil, leaving your skin prepped and primed ready for your makeup

Item 4. The Fig & Rouge Hydra-Activ Smart Nutrient Vital Moisture Day Cream. This moisturiser is lightweight and gives you instant and long lasting hydration, containing vital ingredients like hylaronic acid and vitamins A, C and E. How to use- apply evenly to the face and neck daily after cleansing.

Item 5. Last but not least is the Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Oil Miracle Brazilnut Oil Pulp Treatment, a mask for smoother, shinier and more manageable hair. Containing argan powder particles and macadamia nuts, which remove impurities and intensely nourish your hair. How to use- work into mid-lengths and ends of towel dried hair, comb through and leave it on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
